The Squad Building Challenge (SBC) system in FC 27 has seen a massive overhaul. Instead of building a squad with a strict average rating, the new "streamlined" system uses an Item Score mechanism. This gives you far more flexibility but also changes how you should value high-rated fodder.
How the Item Score system works
Each SBC now requires a total point threshold rather than a traditional squad rating. You fill this threshold by submitting players. The higher a player's rating, the exponentially more points they contribute to the requirement.
Because of this, trying to complete a challenge with too few players (by relying on one or two extremely expensive Icon-level cards) is usually a massive waste of coins. The most cost-effective way to hit the required Item Score is by submitting a larger number of players rated between 88, 89, and 90.
Submitting Duplicates
One of the best quality-of-life changes in FC 27 is the ability to submit the exact same card multiple times into an SBC. If you have several untradeable copies of an 88-rated player in your unassigned pile, you no longer have to quick-sell them or search for separate SBCs. You can submit them all into a single high-tier challenge, saving you time and keeping your club clean.
