When to buy in FC 27: read the store before you invest
Tradable store packs flood the market and sink prices. How to watch the content drop, tell tradable packs from untradeable ones, and stay out until the risk has passed.
Most early-season losses in FUT are not bad picks. They are good picks bought at the wrong hour. TheFutAccountant makes the same point every week in his market videos: what EA puts in the store on content day decides whether your investment goes up or straight down. This page is a practical version of that warning. It is his read of the market, not a promise about prices.
Why prices fall when packs land
A tradable pack is a supply machine. Thousands of players open them at once, every card that comes out can be listed, and the market suddenly has far more sellers than buyers. Prices drop because supply jumped, not because the cards got worse.
The same thing happens on reward days. Division Rivals payouts and squad-building fodder hitting the market together were enough to knock prices down hard in the first week of FC 27, with no promo involved at all.
The one distinction that matters: tradable or untradeable
Tradable packs put sellable cards into the market. Expect prices to fall, sometimes for hours.
Untradeable packs — the kind bundled with objectives and gear-up style offers — cannot be listed. They barely move the market at all, however good the cards inside look.
The difference is written in the store, under the pack name, before you pay. Read it there rather than guessing from the price or the artwork.
The rule: wait for the drop, then decide
- Do not buy in the hours before content. This is the expensive habit. Buyers pile in ahead of a promo, then the store opens with tradable packs and the floor falls out.
- Watch the store the moment content lands. Content usually drops at 18:00 UK time.
- Tradable packs in the store? Sit out. Supply is coming. If you are holding, selling before the drop is the safer side of the trade.
- No tradable packs? Prices tend to recover once the event is live, and that is the window worth buying into.
Note what this rule is not: it is not a prediction. It is a way of refusing to bet against a supply shock you can see coming.
Two more traps in the same week
Collection-driven prices. When cards are needed for a Gallery or a collection, players buy them for the reward and resell straight after. The price is inflated by a deadline, not by demand for the card. When the collection closes, so does the premium.
Live cards. Event cards that upgrade on real-life form only count the fixtures their rules name. During an international break, club fixtures are not being played, so nothing upgrades and the hype is running ahead of the schedule.
Doing this in ABFut
- Check whether it is the market or your card. The Market tab shows Index 100 with its graph and the day's biggest risers and fallers. A card falling while the whole index falls is a supply event, not a problem with that card.
- Read the graph before content day. A player's page shows the live lowest BIN and the price history for console and PC. If a card is already near the top of its recent range, you are buying into the risk, not away from it.
- Set a hard maximum. Filters buy at your limit and no higher, so a dip cannot talk you into paying more than you planned.
- Be running after the drop, not before. If the store brings tradable packs, that falling market is where the cheap buys are — start the session then and let it run in the floating window.
ABFut automates the searching, bidding and relisting at prices you choose. It does not forecast the market, and no dip is guaranteed to bounce.
Questions people ask
Why do FUT player prices drop when EA releases packs?
Tradable packs add a large supply of sellable cards to the transfer market at once. With far more sellers than buyers, prices fall until the supply is absorbed. Untradeable packs do not have this effect, because the cards inside cannot be listed.
Should I buy players before a promo drops in FC 27?
Buying in the hours before content is the riskiest moment. If EA puts tradable packs in the store, supply spikes and prices fall. Waiting until the store is visible, then buying if there are no tradable packs, avoids betting against a supply shock you could have seen.
How do I tell a tradable pack from an untradeable one?
The store lists it under the pack name before you pay. Untradeable packs state that their contents cannot be traded; objective and gear-up style rewards are usually untradeable. Check the text rather than judging by price or artwork.
What time does FC 27 content drop?
New Ultimate Team content usually goes live at 18:00 UK time. That is the moment to look at the store, because what is in it decides whether prices fall or recover that evening.
